What Drives Us
Mission, Vision & Values
Why This Work Matters
Small administrative gaps often lead to denials or delays, prolonging instability even when resources exist. We close the gap between crisis and stability by walking alongside women through every step.
Our Mission
We advance long-term stability for immigrant women, women with disabilities, and survivors of abuse through structured systems navigation, economic empowerment, and community health coordination.
Our Vision
A community where women facing systemic barriers are supported with clarity, dignity, and strategic guidance to achieve long-term self-sufficiency.
Our Values
Our Story
Born from Lived Experience
Different Mindset, Inc. was founded by Dr. Isatu Jalloh, who witnessed firsthand the barriers that women face when trying to access essential services. Navigating systems like SNAP, Medicaid, housing assistance, and SSI can be overwhelming -- especially for immigrant women, women with disabilities, and survivors of abuse who may lack familiarity with these processes or have limited support.
What began as one woman helping others in her community has grown into a structured nonprofit providing guidance, advocacy, and hands-on support. Based in Prince George's County, Maryland, Different Mindset serves women across the region who need help understanding their options, completing applications, gathering documentation, and following up with agencies.
We do not provide direct financial assistance or approve applications. Instead, we walk alongside women through every step of the process -- making sure they have the knowledge, preparation, and advocacy they need to access the resources available to them.
Our approach is built on trust, consent, and cultural sensitivity. Every interaction is guided by respect for the women we serve and a commitment to empowerment over dependency.
